Subwavelength localization and toroidal dipole moment of spoof surface plasmon polaritons
We experimentally and theoretically demonstrate subwavelength scale localization of spoof surface plasmon polaritons at a point defect in a two-dimensional groove metal array. An analytical expression for dispersion relation of spoof surface plasmon polaritons substantiates the existence of a band gap where a defect mode can be introduced. A waveguide coupling method allows us to excite localized spoof surface plasmon polariton modes and measure their resonance frequencies. Numerical calculations confirm that localized modes can have a very small modal volume and a high Q factor both of which are essential in enhancing light-matter interactions. Interestingly, we find that the localized spoof surface plasmon polariton has a significant toroidal dipole moment, which is responsible for the high Q factor, as well as an electric quadrupole moment. In addition, the dispersion properties of spoof surface plasmon polaritons are analyzed using a modal expansion method and numerical calculations

An Automated WSDL Generation and Enhanced SOAP Message Processing System for Mobile Web Services
Web services are key applications in business-to-business, business-to-customer, and enterprise applications integration solutions. As the mobile Internet becomes one of the main methods for information delivery, mobile Web Services are regarded as a critical aspect of e-business architecture. In this paper, we proposed a mobile Web Services middleware that converts conventional Internet services into mobile Web services. We implemented a WSDL (Web Service Description Language) builder that converts HTML/XML into WSDL and a SAOP (Simple Object Access Protocol) message processor. The former minimizes the overhead cost of rebuilding mobile Web Services and enables seamless services between wired and wireless Internet services. The latter enhances SOAP processing performance by eliminating the Servlet container (Tomcat), a required component of typical Web services implementation. Our system can completely support standard Web Services protocol, minimizing communication overhead, message processing time, and server overload. Finally we compare our empirical results with those of typical Web Service
Controlled selective growth of ZnO nanorod and microrod arrays on Si substrates by a wet chemical method
The use of a wet chemical method to selectively grow ZnO microrod and nanorod arrays on Si substrates is described. To control the size and position of the ZnO microrods and nanorods, polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) submicron patterns were prepared on the Si substrates with an intermediate ZnO layer using e-beam lithography. Selective growth of the ZnO structures was achieved by the absence of ZnO nucleation sites on the PMMA mask, resulting in position-controlled growth of ZnO structures only on patterned holes where the ZnO layer was exposed. In addition, the diameters of the ZnO microrods were determined by the patterned hole size, and the diameters as small as 250 nm were obtained when a hole diameter of 250 nm was employed. The structural and optical characteristics of the ZnO microrods were further investigated using x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The most widely used method is T2* imaging is sensitive to non-iron related magnetic field (B0) inhomogeneities, which can confound T2* measurements within the whole heart and liver. An alternative method is T2 imaging, but they are generally performed during free breathing with respiratory gating due to their low data acquisition efficiency. Holographic DC conductivities from the open string metric
We study the DC conductivities of various holographic models using the open
string metric (OSM), which is an effective metric geometrizing density and
electromagnetic field effect. We propose a new way to compute the nonlinear
conductivity using OSM. As far as the final conductivity formula is concerned,
it is equivalent to the Karch-O'Bannon's real-action method. However, it yields
a geometrical insight and technical simplifications. Especially, a real-action
condition is interpreted as a regular geometry condition of OSM. As
applications of the OSM method, we study several holographic models on the
quantum Hall effect and strange metal. By comparing a Lifshitz background and
the Light-Cone AdS, we show how an extra parameter can change the temperature
scaling behavior of conductivity. Finally we discuss how OSM can be used to
study other transport coefficients, such as diffusion constant, and effective
temperature induced by the effective world volume horizon.Comment: 33 page
Crystallization and preliminary X-ray crystallographic analysis of a yedU gene product from Escherichia coli
A yedU gene product with a molecular mass of 31 kDa is a hypothetical protein with no known function. The protein was purified and crystallized at 296 K. X-ray diffraction data have been collected to 2.3 Angstrom using synchrotron radiation. The crystals belong to the primitive orthorhombic system, with unit-cell parameters a = 50.56, b = 63.45, c = 168.02 Angstrom. The asymmetric unit contains two monomers of the protein, with a corresponding V-M of 2.25 Angstrom(3) Da(-1) and a solvent content of 44.84%.open2
